Principal’s Update

November 22nd, 2024.

Dear Mead High School Community,

Last week ended with three very big events taking place. The first was our volleyball team’s amazing finish in the state playoff’s. They entered as a 12 seed and after two big upset wins, they ended up losing to the eventual 1st and 2nd place teams to finish top 6th in the state. It was a great ending to their season. The football team hosted their first round playoff game and cruised to a win setting them up for this week’s home matchup against Pueblo Central at 1:00pm on Saturday. Finally, our performing arts department shined in front of a full auditorium as they put on their fall plays. The three shows, Sherlock’s Best, Every Novel You Read in High School, and The Yellow Wallpaper showcased our students’ acting talents in three very different styles of show. I am so proud of everyone who helped put on those performances including our teachers Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Baxter, the students who performed and did all of the stage tech work, and all of the parent and community supporters.

On Thursday we hosted our annual Open House event. This event highlights all of the great things happening at Mead HS as well as the many different programs and opportunities students have access to. The building was full of energy and our staff and students rolled out the red carpet for our incoming students. For students who do not live in our attendance area, they must complete the Open Enrollment application starting on Dec. 2nd.

It is hard to believe we are already at Thanksgiving Break. I wish everyone a wonderful break and I hope that our students can find time to rest, recover, and rejuvenate as they prepare to finish the first half of this year. I am proud of the work everyone is doing and I am thankful to be a part of such an amazing school community. I also recognize that the holidays can be tough for some and I want to offer assistance to any student or family who may need help during this time. Please contact me at 720-494-3940 if there is anything the staff at Mead can do to help.

After we return from Thanksgiving Break, we will have two weeks of instruction and then three days of final exams (12/17, 12/18, and 12/19). In order to help set our students up for a successful finish to the first half of the year, our staff will be using our Late Start/PLC time on Dec. 4th for students to come in and get extra help and support from 7:45 – 10:15am. We will provide limited transportation and will provide donuts for those students who attend. We hope our students take advantage of this time for make up missed work, re-take tests, and get additional help. If you have questions about this event, please contact the front office.
