Katarina Schmitt is thrilled to be the Director of Orchestras at Mead High School! She holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from St. Olaf College, where she graduated magna cum laude and with distinction in her field. She will complete a masters degree in Music Education at Colorado State University in the summer of 2015.
As a teacher, Katarina was the Director of Orchestras at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins from 2012 to 2014. During her time there the orchestras were recognized for their excellence by numerous adjudicators and clinicians. She has also greatly enjoyed teaching private violin, viola and fiddle lessons to students of all ages since 2004.
As a violinist, Katarina has performed all around the United States and in Spain. She played with the St. Olaf Orchestra for four years and has since played with the Minnetonka Symphony, the Poudre Valley Health and Wellness Orchestra, multiple chamber ensembles and as a soloist.
Katarina lives with her fiance, who is a professional violist (but she still loves a good viola joke), and their dog Gustav (you decide if his last name is Mahler, Holst or Dudamel). She loves hiking, reading and spending time with friends and family, but making music is her favorite thing...especially with the students at Mead! Go Mavs!
